Individual Mental Health Therapy
Therapy, also called psychotherapy or counseling, is the process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and co-occurring disorders; therapy is the treatment of mental conditions by verbal communication and interaction.
Individual Therapy/Counseling- Individual therapy is one type of psychotherapy in which a trained and licensed professional helps a single person work through personal issues they have been facing. It is an effective evidence-based treatment for a variety of emotional difficulties and mental wellness challenges. Individual therapy with an individual can help improve or control symptoms that influence an individual’s well-being.
Therapy with Children and Teens: Therapy for children and teenagers involves the same process of meeting with a therapist to resolve problematic behaviors, emotions, or co-occurring issues. The American Academy of Children and Adolescent Psychiatry states, “the child or adolescent must feel comfortable, safe, and understood. This type of trusting environment makes it much easier for the child to express his/her thoughts and feelings and to use the therapy in a helpful way. Psychotherapy helps children and adolescents in a variety of ways.
They receive emotional support, resolve conflicts with people, understand feelings and problems, and try out new solutions to old problems. Goals for therapy may be specific (change in behavior, improved relations with friends or family), or more general (less anxiety, better self-esteem).”
